Susan Introduces Herself

(Time Zone -- May 7, 2002)

I don't think this is necessary for most of you. I know many of you from TOL (like some others, I started there when it was still on AOL back in early 1995), and others I have gotten to know here and elsewhere since then. I have met a few of my online friends in real life.

I live in SE Illinois, work in SW Indiana (I manage a store where we buy/sell/trade books, cds, movies -- VHS and DVD -- video games, video game systems, electronics, etc.)

I was 54 in January. I have 2 younger sisters (Pris in Metropolis, IL, and Megan in Evansville, IN) and 2 younger brothers (Matt in Monterey, CA, and Skip just north of Cincinnati, OH), 3 nieces and 4 nephews (ranging in age from 4-24) -- don't let me start talking about them or I'll never quit. *ggg*

As most of you know, my mom (78 in January) moved to a nursing home on Mar. 29. She had been suffering from dementia (possibly Alzheimer's) for quite a while. She is NOT too happy about it -- keeps wanting to go "home," but where that is can vary from minute to minute. It's an adjustment for both of us.

Politically?? I'm left of center, but not tooooooooo far left. I have even voted for a few Republicans. *gg* Actually, in IL, to vote in the primary you have to ask for a ballot for the party -- I usually get a ballot for the party that has the most interesting contests, unless there is a particular person I really want to support. Last year I had a sign in my yard for a local Republican candidate -- I'd say I'm a left-leaning independent for the most part.

(Time After Time - February 27, 2004)

Guess this isn't necessary for those with whom I have posted for years, but I live in SE Illinois and work in SW Indiana. Currently, much of my free time (well, when I'm not here, of course) is spent with Mom at the Nursing Home (in case there happens to be anyone who doesn't know, she has Alzheimer's or a similar dementia) or working with related organizations, etc.

I used to love to read, but don't really have much time for that these days, and if I do, it's mostly about Alzheimer's or Caregiving.

If you stick around here long, you will learn about my mom and the rest of my family (2 sisters and 2 brothers...4 nieces, 4 nephews).

EDIT: I neglected to mention my beautiful cat, Lexie (rescued from the animal shelter in 1995 or 1996). Then there are the other 3 cats who seem to think they own me, as well as those who enjoy the food I put out for THOSE 3. *ggg*

Oh, on a political scale, I lean left (particularly on social issues), but I'm pretty independent and mostly center on many things.
